Fans of Francis Ford Coppola‘s The Godfather, rejoice! HBO is all set to bring the gangster family saga back to the small screen as what has been aptly titled The Godfather Epic. In fact, if reports are to be believed, most of us have already missed the first airing thanks to the Academy Awards taking away all the attention.
The Godfather Epic is essentially The Godfather and The Godfather II combined together, chronologically along with additional footage that was left out of the theatricalscreenings. The seven and a half hour, uncensored version will be aired again on January 23rd and is available On Demand till January 28th.
A censored version of The Godfather Epic, titled as The Godfather: A Novel For Television, was in fact first aired in 1979 on NBC. In 1981, Paramountreleased the uncensored version on VHS, and in 1992 added The Godfather Part III to the mix, calling it The Godfather Trilogy. Four years ago,AMCshowed this version, but with commercial breaks, however HBO is now showing it with no breaks at all. So make sure you tune in to HBO to witness the unseen scenes of the ’70s classic.
Meanwhile, HBO has suspended the production of its long-gestating television adaptation ofWestworld. “As we head into the final phase of production onWestworld, we’ve made the decision to take a brief hiatus in order to get ahead of the writing,” the network announced in a press statement.
This isn’t the first time that the network’s series take on the futuristic theme park thriller has faced problems. Throughout its making the sci-fi drama has witnessed cast changes, delays and plot adjustments from its executive producersJonathan Nolan andLisa Joy.
However, despite the unexpected hault, the series is expected to resume production in March and has been scheduled for a 2016 release only. Westworldstars Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, and Ed Harris.
