Last year when autumn rolled around, we were more than happy to wrap ourselves in sweatpants and fancy PJs while working from home. This year, albeit precautious, we’re eager to put together styles that are a bit more fashion forward as we slowly start incorporating more restaurant visits, office days and hangouts with friends into our schedule.

Get an all-purpose outfit

Whether you want to scour through the internet or the malls in search of one, or get one stitched yourself, you need an autumnal dress. Think fall hues – browns, orange, rust, reds, yellows or a burgundy– which will work for any occasion. You can opt for something printed or floral.

Khaadi

You can find inspiration from Khaadi’s bright orange kurta-cum-dress or this cute flowy dress from Gulabo. It is the perfect all-purpose dress. Pair it with formal shoes and wear it to the office but just as easily throw it on with sneakers for a casual weekend night dinner. The colour and print will immediately get you in the fall mood.

Classic fall makeup essentials

It’s time to get your dewy foundations and liquid highlighters out, because we’re about to have a glow up! While there are many high-end glowy foundations out there, but our fave is the drugstore’s L’Oreal Infallible or Maybelline FitMe which works like a charm. After the primer, you can use a drop of a liquid highlighter and apply it to the high point of your face, or you can just mix it with the foundation and the apply it. But, don’t go overboard with it or it will look like you’re sweating. For the blush, opt for pinks rather than peaches and keep the contour light. Keep the highlight minimal too, because we’re keeping our eyes and the lips as the star.

The simple fall eye is quick, easy, and reliable. Use two to three shades – chocolate brown, vanilla and a dark brown – to create a faded brown look, then finishing off with some liner and lashes or volumising mascara. For lips, be a bit bolder: Go with deeper liner and pink lip, finishing off with gloss. The result? A natural fall makeup look, that’s also as glamorous as can be!

Don’t be too quick to shed the brights

Just because we’re in the fall mode, that doesn’t mean everyone has to stick to dark and grunge themes. Pinks and yellows are underrated colours for fall and it’s about time we let them take the front stage. Don’t be afraid to add pops of bright colours to your fall makeover. From classic smokey eyes to vibrant colours (because those aren’t only for summer), the sky is the limit this season. Our faces are our canvases and we are ready to paint.

Selena Gomez recently sported a wash of matte bright pink on her eyes paired with a liner, and we think it looks absolutely stunning. You can do this for any colour that you like, whether it’s a bright neon shade or something dark like a burgundy.

Another cool idea is to go for a yellow smokey eye! It’s unique and it will grab attention from afar. You can use shades of brown for the transition shade or opt for something rust, but keep the yellow (matte or shimmer, we recommend matte) for your lid.

Wings for days

Our love for the classic winged liner is timeless but we like to keep it interesting too. The best part is, you can wear it to work or a party, it’ll work for any event. It’s also the quickest way to glam up when you are heading out. There’s a whole lot of fun you can have with a wing.

Let’s start with a hybrid between a full-on winged liner and eyeshadow, the soft yet striking look will be perfect to let your eye makeup do all the talk. All you need to do is create a wing and line a little bit of your crease inwards. It will form a triangle, which you can then blend it slightly, keep the shape intact but softening up the edges.

You can also play with colours here. Opt for a burgundy liner instead of black or maybe something rust, maroon or any fall hue. It’s going to look stunning!

Don’t forget that lustre for your pout

The colder months are great to experiment with lip colours (even if you are wearing a face mask) and eyeshadow galore without sweating off the precious makeup that took hours to apply. For this, we suggest switching to bullet mattes like the ones from M.A.C.. If you are more of a liquid lipstick fan, here is a pro-tip to keep your lipsticks from smudging under the mask. Always moisturise your lips so the application is smooth. Then apply your liquid lip and let it dry. After that, apply clear gloss and the colour will not budge. The Essence ones are great for this.

Nishat Linen

Coat up

Unlike the North, it doesn’t exactly get cold enough in most parts of Pakistan that we could sport a coat in the season. But that isn’t going to stop us into getting something similar to get our fave fall attire. Enter lawn jackets! Recently, Nishat Linen came out with the cutest looking lawn jacket, which would work perfectly for the season. It’s light and you can wear it atop a dark-coloured top with some cotton pants. You can also accessorise with some funky jewellery to complete the look.

Nishat Linen

Play with accessories!

Floral sandals (From Walkeaze, Nishat or Khaadi) or bright-coloured bags (we love the yellow one from Limelight), there is an amazing variety of accessories to play with this season. A current trend that has caught our eye is the scarf tied around a bag. It is giving us the vintage vibes in all the right ways, which is why it’s the perfect addition to an already-ladylike purse.

Limelight

And you don’t even have to buy a super expensive bag for it. Last, but not least, jewellery. Rings and necklaces are a great way to show a little bit of your personal style by mixing and matching. Stacking jewellery, rings specifically of different styles and sizes, draws attention to your intricate pieces and can help pull your look together. Similarly, you can layer necklaces or chains to complete your look, at the same time balancing the outfit and the accessories.
