This past year singer-actor Komal Rizvi made more news for a selfie with humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi than any song or music video. Though she’s been actively performing live, playing events like the grand finale of Pepsi Unplugged (last month) and before that at Dubai Global Village, it is her recent decision to sponsor the education of five students that is worth applauding.

Marking the New Year with an auspicious step, Komal has stepped forward to sponsor the education of five students who belong to Amina Academy, a charity school run by Bazm-e-Amina. Initiatives like this give one hope that despite the many problems that plague Pakistan, there are still plenty of reasons to be positive and Komal’s endeavour is just that.

In recent years, Komal Rizvi has been on the comeback trail. After pulling a disappearance act, she’s been active for some time now. Komal made an impact last year with the single ‘Tu Beh Gaya’ in which she was seen longing for her lost love, played by Beeba Boy Ali Kazmi. The music video, directed by the young Azaan Sami Khan, also featured choreography by Hasan Rizvi and was shot by the supremely talented Mo Azmi, who served as DOP to the project.
