This refers to the editorials, ‘Rape is rampant’ (January 10) and ‘Rape risk’ (December 27). The editorials have rightly highlighted the plight of the school girl in Lahore who was allegedly gang-raped by a member of the youth wing of Punjab’s ruling party, and his friends.
Gang-rape cases are not isolated incidents of big cities like Lahore but take place across the length and breadth of Punjab. CM Shahbaz Sharif seems to be content with just taking notice of such incidents. Perhaps he is more committed to running metros or constructing the Orange Line Train. It is unfortunate that no heads have rolled so far despite a rise in such crimes. The chief justice is requested to take suo motu notice of the incident and provide justice to the victim.
