MIRPUR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was leading on Thursday in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) Bagh-3 constituency, according to unofficial and preliminary results, as votes counting was under way after re-polling was held in four locations of LA-16.
The main contenders were PTI’s Sardar Ameer Akbar and Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Sardar Qamar Zaman. The PTI candidate was leading, at the time of this report, Geo News reported.
The count began after re-polling in the four stations of LA-16 Bagh-3 constituency concluded. Polling activity began at 8.00 in the morning and continued till 5.00pm without any pause or incident. Polling in the four polling stations was halted on July 25 due to some disturbances, state media reported.
The AJK election commission had appointed Naib Tehsildar Ejaz Abbasi as the Assistant Returning officer to conduct the re-polling in stations 42, 134, 135 and 136 of LA-16 Bagh-3, the election commission said.
On Monday, official results of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections — sans the LA-16 constituency — were announced and the PTI emerged as the victorious party by winning 25 seats out of 45 seats, AJK Chief Election Commissioner Abdul Rashid Suhleria had announced. The PPP won 11, and the PML-N managed to secure six.
