Those arrested by the Kohsar police include: Zakir Jaffer (father of the main accused), Asmat Zakir (mother), Jamil Ahmed (security guard) and Muhammad Iftikhar (servant). The police also obtained two-day physical remand of the four people included in the FIR No 380, lodged under Section 302 PPC against the main accused, and shifted them to Police Station Kohsar. The accused have been booked under sections 109/176/201/511 PPC, police sources said. Section 176 PPC says: omission to give notice or information to a public servant by a person, legally bound to give, 109 PPC (Abetment), 201 causing disappearance of evidence of offence and 511 has been added to the FIR. These offences are punishable with imprisonment for life, or a shorter term, a renowned lawyer Sardar Naveed told this correspondent.

The people engaged in the investigation of such a heinous case, quoting the parents of the principal accused Zahid Jafar, disclosed that he had contacted his parents before committing the gruesome act, saying that he would kill Noor Mukadam if she refused to accept his marriage proposal. The police sources said that because of the marriage controversy resulted in the sad episode.

The sources disclosed that Noor Mukadam jumped down from the gallery during torture by the accused, and tried to escape from the building, but the security guard, who was witness to the brutal act, intercepted her and handed her over to the accused, who dragged her back to the room and again started torturing her.

“The security guard informed the parents in Karachi about the grisly act of their son at about 3.30am on Tuesday, but he and the parents did not inform the area police about the killing. Noor Mukadam was slaughtered at 7pm, which indicated the irresponsible attitude shown by the parents and his servants,” the investigating officers said. The victim could have been rescued alive had they informed the police on time, they added.

The duty magistrate, in his order said, “The counsel for the defendants submitted that the accused persons namely Zakir Jaffer and Mrs Asmat Zakir, had already secured an interim bail, granted by an additional district judge. But they could not submit the surety bonds, as the bank concerned was closed on the day of order i.e. 24-7-2021.

Therefore, the duty judge gave physical custody of the accused to the police subject to their pre- and past-medical examination by the authorised medical officer. The accused person should be produced in the court on July 27, 2021, said the order.
