This refers to the letter ‘Pension problems’ (July17) by Bakhtiar Qayyum. The writer has talked about the pension issue in a brilliant manner. There are many people who rely on the meagre EOBI pension and are not entitled to receive any other pension. PTI leaders used to repeat that the party would increase the pension to Rs15,000. However, in the 2021-2022 budget, there was no mention of the EOBI pension.
Pakistan should provide monthly financial support to people who have been retired from jobs that don’t provide after-retirement pension, so that they can meet their everyday expenses respectfully. This will also help fulfil the PM’s dream of turning the country into a welfare state. The incumbent government should follow in the footsteps of the developed welfare states.
