ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s ten-year old Haniya Minhas Friday lived up to her ranking, winning the 14 & Under Sobir Cup Asian Tennis Federation Tournament in Dushanbe (Tajikistan).
The young girl outplayed Sumaya Tukhtaeva (Tajikistan) 6-1, 6-0 in straight sets in the final to land the title.
Top-seed Haniya was in great form throughout the tournament and won all her matches comfortably without losing a set.
It is pertinent to mention that Haniya is the first Pakistani girl to win an ATF 14 and under event in Pakistan’s history. She did it by beating a host of players.
PTF President Salim Saifullah Khan and the Executive Committee of PTF extended their felicitation to Haniya and her parents and termed her success as a great honour for the country.
“It is a great honour for Pakistan and for the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) that a girl as young as Haniya has won an international junior title. It would surely prove a breakthrough for her. Haniya’s triumph will prove to be an inspiration for other players, especially young girls and serve as a motivating factor for upcoming players. May Allah bless her with more victories so that she could bring more laurels for Pakistan.”
