Drought-like conditions in different parts of the city are dangerous for Kharif crops. If dry conditions persist, it will not be good for crops. Little to no rain is likely to result in an acute shortage of water, which will not be sufficient for drinking and irrigation purposes. This, once again, exposes the lack of planning of our leaders who failed to take necessary measures to build small and large dams to preserve water. Also, while we are so desperately hoping for rain, we cannot ignore the fact that even a short spell of heavy rains will cause floods because we don’t have reservoirs to store, and control the flow of, rainwater. We somehow believe that it is Nature’s responsibility to ensure that we receive just the right amount of rain at the right time. We, as a nation, are not going to move an inch to take steps to store rainwater. We haven’t done anything to construct small dams and reservoirs even though we know that initiating such projects will allow us to store excess water.
These steps will also help us generate economic activity and bring the country back to the road to progress. If only our leader could understand this simple yet critical reality, we would have been able to improve our social and economic conditions. The sooner they do, the better it is.
