A ray of hope

This refers to the editorial ‘A push for peace’ (July 7). The prime minister’s comments on talks with disgruntled groups in Balochistan signify hope. The PM’s intentions can be turned into a positive change only by ensuring that all stakeholders are on board and by building on previous attempts at reconciliation. His comments are consistent with his stance on drones, and he has always said that ‘violence begets violence’. If he manages to address the grievances of the people of Balochistan, it will be remarkable and will most certainly set his legacy apart from his predecessors.

Balochistan is our province, but the subject is often shrouded in a strange mist of apprehension and fear. We should be able to talk about the issue openly.
