Singer Adnan Sami has long been struggling to settle down in India permanently until he was granted an indefinite visa on October 6, last year. Now, with the dawn of a new year, Sami has been gifted with an Indian citizenship for which he had first applied in 2004.

“India has been my beautiful home for 16 years. I’ve received infinite love from everyone in this country. I love the country and the people and never felt like an outsider. I am grateful to everyone in India for making me feel I belong here,” said an elated Sami, according to First Post.

Sami made his way to Bollywood in 2001 giving a number of hits like ‘Lift Kara De’. He remained a Pakistani citizen while living in India, on an off, until his passport expired in May 2015 and the Pakistani government refused to renew it. Since his original citizen application, Sami has had to report to the FRRO for each extension. The 46-year-old artist, who has found himself in a whirlwind of controversies ever since he decided to change nationality, can now breathe with a place to call home.
