The theft of 250 tolas of gold from a locker of a private bank in Clifton is becoming more complex as the police investigators have found out that seven more lockers were broken and empty in the same bank.
The Investigators also found that two hard disks of CCTV cameras were stolen on April 28, 2020, and the bank management registered an FIR (No. 248/20) on June 29 on behalf of the bank employee, namely Shaikh Muhammad Naeem. Neither the police nor the bank took interest in the case and later the case was disposed of under A-Class.
SHO Pir Shabbir Haider suspected that someone might have stolen cash, gold and other valuables from the lockers and then stole the hard disks to remove all the evidences.
The police said the data of the other seven victims were being obtained to further investigate the incident. Earlier, while talking to The News, Deputy Inspector General South Zone Javed Akbar Riaz confirmed, “The bank’s client visited the bank after one-and-a-half-years and found her locker was empty.” He explained that the circumstantial evidences strongly suggest the involvement of the bank’s staff, as the locker was neither broken nor opened.
The police officer said that not every bank staffer was allowed to enter the locker’s section, and only relevant staff had access to the locker’s room after completing the formalities like registration and approvals.
