Mehdi Hasan is an employee at the orphanage located on Kashmir Road, the investigation officer (IO) of the case told the court. The judicial magistrate East, Sajid Iqbal, placed Hasan in police custody for one day for interrogation and sought a progress report from the IO on the next hearing on Wednesday (today).

The IO told the court that the man was arrested after an aunt of the victim lodged a complaint at the Jamshed Quarters police station. She said her niece had been living at the orphanage since her parents died 10 years ago. She added that she went to meet her on June 13 and then she narrated her ordeal to her. The victim said the man called the girl inside her office on May 26 and subjected her to rape.
