This refers to the letter, ‘The strength of education’ (December 22) by Amna Malik. The writer has paid a timely and befitting tribute to Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai – the teenage icon of peace, education and tolerance. She has highlighted the unprecedented bravery of the living legend and the soft face of our country. Not much is being written and spoken about Malala in the media although she has fascinated the whole world, bringing laurels to her home country. The government, in particular, is mysteriously silent on this issue. The only exception has been an article, ‘Looking beyond Peshawar’ (December 20) by Ghazi Salahuddin.

We need to develop partnerships among selfless personalities who are symbols of education and progress. Our challenges cannot be addressed with myopic and half-hearted measures. Let us wipe out the old and usher in the new.
