This refers to the letter, ‘Learning from India’ (December 21) by Rehana Rafique. I fully agree about the need for Pakistan to make its foreign policy more effective to improve the military and economic situation. At the same time, we cannot negate Pakistan’s importance while discussing India. Both countries are important in the South Asian region. Our government is striving to enhance relations with the Russia, India and the US. More recently, Pakistan has shifted its focus to neighbouring states like China to promote national interests. The CPEC project, the Tapi gas pipeline project and India’s inclination towards a bilateral dialogue are just some of the examples of success on the part of the current government.
Even in Pak-Russian relations, Pakistan is active in strengthening ties. Moscow has agreed to deliver high-tech jet engines for the JF-17 which is a joint Pak-China venture. A few years back, the thought of Russia supplying Islamabad with such sophisticated engines would have been hardly conceivable .
