The government is currently working towards reducing the child mortality rate in the country as an effort to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. According to a report by the Global Call to Action Against Poverty, healthcare and, in particular, maternal and neonatal facilities need to be improved and made accessible in the rural areas.
Apart from providing curative healthcare measures, preventive measures should also be addressed since clean water and adequate sanitation facilities in the country are the main causes of high mortality rates.
