I am writing to talk about just how much I love Maleeha Durrani’s pieces that have been published so far in Us!!! Her writing is excellent, her fiction is as fine as her non-fiction. Guli Haji Ali was lovely, and I literally cannot wait for Maleeha to write more. I am in love with her writing style!
Kudos to Team Us for giving a platform to amazing people like Miss Durrani, Iqra Asad, and all the other lovely people who write for Us!!

Hi Ed,
April 9’s issue had me in tears, and there are no prizes for guessing why. We, the fans, are all still reeling from the sudden breakup of Strings! There is no other band like Strings and no two people like Faisal and Bilal in the music industry. Why, oh why is what I keep asking myself, but even ‘Strings unstrung’ by Fatima Zakir did not have an answer. I wish them well, but hope that they don’t stay away from music. Once before they broke-up but came together, so here’s to hoping that they will do so again. Great write-up, tugged at the strings of my heart!

What a great cover story on Strings by Fatima Zakir! And, I agree with her: it’s not an obit, as Strings are very much alive and out there. We shouldn’t give up on them at all. But what a sad day it was, for me and my friends! Whenever we had sleepovers at each other’s houses, we would go to sleep after listening to our favourite songs again and again. Just because Strings are not a band anymore doesn’t mean it is over for us. We will continue to enjoy their timeless music. Farewell, Strings, may you live forever!

Reflection
Kuraib (R.A) reported that Umm Fadl (R.A), daughter of Harith (R.A), sent him (Fadl, i.e. her son) to Mu’awiya (R.A) in Syria. I (Fadl) arrived in Syria, and did the needful for her. It was there in Syria that the month of Ramadan commenced. I saw the new moon (of Ramadan) on Friday. I then came back to Medina at the end of the month. Abdullah b. ‘Abbas ((R.A) asked me (about the new moon of Ramadan) and said: When did you see it? I said.: We saw it on the night of Friday. He said: (Did) you see it yourself? I said: Yes, and the people also saw it and they observed fast and Mu’awiya also observed fast, whereupon he said: But we saw it on Saturday night. So we would continue to observe fast till we complete thirty (lasts) or we see it (the new moon of Shawwal). I said: Is the sighting of the moon by Mu’awiya not valid for you? He said: No; this is how the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) may peace be upon him) has commanded us. Yahya b. Yahya (R.A) was in doubt (whether the word used in the narration by Kuraib) was Naktafi or Taktafi.
