Govt to keep computerised record of Raiwind Ijtima attendees

LAHORE: The government has decided to install biometric system at the Raiwind Tablighee (missionary) Ijtima (congregation) in the suburbs of Punjab capital to keep record of the attendees of the annual religious event against the backdrop of prevailing law and order situation of the country.

Sources told Geo News that the decision has been taken in connection with the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) to eradicate the menace of terrorism and extremism from the country.

According to details, thumb and fingers impressions of the pilgrims would be taken at all entry points of the religious gathering that lasts for days.

Surveillance of inward traffic from Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, South and North Waziristan and Quetta would be carried out through secret cameras.

Search operations of in and around the Tablighee centre would also be carried out on regular and permanent basis.

Administration of the event would be taken into confidence prior to execution of the operation. They would also be bound to follow the government guidelines.
