Vital debate

This refers to the letter, ‘Nature of state’ (December 3) by Dilawar Hussain. The writer said that, while engaged excessively in the debate on whether Pakistan should be a liberal or an Islamic state, we are losing sight of important issues pertinent to this nation’s development in the long run.
However, I dare say that the future of this country depends on determining this very point. And knowing the person that Quaid-e-Azam was, I can only conclude that he would have wanted a moderate Islamic state where minorities enjoyed equal rights as citizens.
