DALLAS: Former Punjab Assembly member, a Harvard graduate, Humaira Shahid has claimed Pakistan is on downward trajectory instead of economic growth.

She was addressing a gathering in her honor which was hosted by Pakistan American Association of Texas at the house of well-known community leader, Dr. Amer Suleman.

The reception was attended by North Texas leading writers, scholars, poets and politicians.

Addressing the gathering Ms. Humaira Shahid said that she had served two provincial assemblies in Punjab and had worked to get a comprehensive bill passed on usury, for which she faced all kind of hurdles.

She said this was an arduous process which took four years to pass from the assembly. She said that a large number of assembly members used to express their support for her bill in private meetings, but on assembly floor they used to vote differently.

She went on to claim that Pakistani politicians and assemblies are puppet where there master feudal lords and capitalists are running the show.

Humaira Shahid said that Pakistan is in need of a revolution and Pakistani youth can bring this revolution. Elaborating on a point she said that the strength of western societies is that you don’t see duplicity and hypocrisy.

A large number of senior community leaders attended the reception in which Pakistan American Association of Texas President Dr. Javaid Ajmal, Syed Fayyaz Hassan, Iqbal Haider, Raja Zahid Khanzada, Younus Ajaz, and others expressed their views.

The host of the meeting Dr. Amer Suleman while addressing the gathering said Dallas Pakistani community should “build solid foundations on principles and ethics”.

PAAT President Dr. Javaid Ajmal thanked the visiting guest and all the participants for a lively and fruitful discussion.
