Yasir Jaswal’s upcoming music video for Uzair’s ‘Sajna’ looks back at the ’80s

After Jalaibee, which left a bitter taste in our mouth thanks to a weak plot and below average display of acting talent, Yasir Jaswal is back to what he does best – music. The director recently uploaded the teaser look of his upcoming video, featuring budding starlet Armeena Rana Khan and Islamabad’s blue-eyed boy Osman Khalid Butt.

After Jalaibee, which left a bitter taste in our mouth thanks to a weak plot and below average display of acting talent, Yasir Jaswal is back to what he does best – music. However, far more interesting than the cast of the music video is the look of it. The image that Yasir uploaded on his official Facebook page shows the two of them, Uzair Jaswal and a handful of others in ’80s inspired retro look sporting tinted sunglasses and the era’s fashion staple – bright and zany headbands. Another image features Armeena in a fun, pixie cut contrary to her girly TV image. In short, the music video promises to add some excitement to the otherwise dull music scene, just in time for Eid.

“The video is for Uzair Jaswal’s upcoming song ‘Sajna’,” reveal Yasir in a conversation with Instep. “A while back I made a video for Uzair’s song ‘Bolay’ for which we also won an LSA. That song also featured Osman and Uzair and had a prom night theme to it so we kind of tried to recreate those characters. The video is in no way an extension of that or related but we thought since people loved the chemistry why not bring that back.”

“Since the song also has an ’80s retro feel we have added that aspect to the video,” he adds. “Basically it revolves around Osman being stuck in a bad ’80s TV dream and the audience will really relate to it.” Yasir also shared that they have partnered with the local Toni & Guy team for giving the artists the funky makeover and every frame will be a display of their expert styling.

Adnan Siddiqui takes on #TeamMuhafizChallenge

Last year, it was the ice bucket challenge that went viral around the globe and completely took over our social media newsfeeds. This time around, a similar activity is taking place closer to home and has found its first celebrity supporter – the dashing Adnan Siddiqui. The Team Muhafiz Challenge, as the task is called, requires you to plant a tree, post a photo and tag five friends asking them to do the same. In the video Adnan is seen sharing a solemn message with his fans.

“Karachi has experienced an unprecedented heat wave in the past few days. Over a thousand people have died, and many families have lost their breadwinners. There’s a dearth of trees in Sindh to provide shade and Team Muhafiz is a way for me to contribute in beating the heat.” Siddiqui ends the message by nominating fellow actors Humayun Saeed, Aijaz Aslam, Faisal Qureishi, Sanam Jung and Hina Dilpazeer to take up the challenge.

Team Muhafiz is a Pakistani comic book series, aimed at teenagers, which is set to launch over Eid. It focuses on stories that are socially relevant and strike a chord with local citizens. With a timely social campaign to its credit and Adnan Siddiqui onboard as a supporter, it looks set to make a splash.
