We all love and appreciate art and socially responsible films but when it comes to the cinema experience, there’s nothing as entertaining as a popcorn thriller or a good old comedy. This is where Wajahat Rauf’s film, Karachi Se Lahore comes in. It has a young and upcoming cast and crew (with an interesting mix of TV, film and theatre actors) and they all bring their strengths and quirks onboard
Starring Ayesha Omar and Shahzad Sheikh in lead roles, the film also features Javed Sheikh, Rashid Naz, Yasir Hussain, Ahmed Ali and Eshita Syed. The trailer reveals incredible comic relief and some creative licenses when it comes to the actual geography between Karachi and Lahore; it may be next to impossible to find gorgeous dancers at truck stands anywhere in Pakistan, let alone between Sindh and Punjab. But we see Ayesha Omar step up in a sticky situation (where she has to perform to save a friend in distress) and we also see health and lifestyle instructor, Mantaha Maqbool, perform an item number. Her exercise classes in Karachi will surely pick up after the film releases.
Scheduled for a July 31, 2015 release, the true hero of Karachi Se Lahore is undoubtedly its hilarious script. You have to see the trailer to believe it!

Fawad Khan arrives in Mumbai
It turns out that Mahira Khan isn’t the only Pakistani actor in Mumbai at the m
On another set, at another location, Mahira is essaying the role of Shahrukh Khan’s Gujarati wife. Raees is set in the ’90s and is not the typical Shahrukh Khan rom-com. His last unconventional role was in My Name is Khan, which didn’t do so well but the superstar is confident about this one.
“To me, these are films that I want to work in, but I just got the time only now,” said SRK according to Bollywood Life. “I have not even done a rehearsal for the film, but I can assure you that no one can do the film like me,” laughed Khan. “It sounds extremely pompous and arrogant, but I am!” We can’t wait to see Mahira and Shahrukh together onscreen though that is a long wait since Raees is scheduled to release over Eid in 2016.
Faran Tahir to playan alien commander in
TV series, Supergirl
He may be playing shady, villainous roles in Hollywood but Pakistani-American
Based on the comic book character Supergirl, the show has generated a lot of interest worldwide especially from fans of DC Comics. Faran has wrapped up shooting for the pilot, and will be seen in a recurring role throughout the series.
Speaking about his upcoming show, Faran says “Supergirl is a tremendously fun show. Hopefully, CBS will order a full season. The Commander has the potential to be a deliciously ruthless and mischievous character.” We don’t doubt that at all!
We’re glad that an actor of Pakistani origin is making the world wide news circuit for all the right reasons. He recently gave an interview to Huffington in which he elaborated upon the importance of not allowing stereotyping of Muslim characters in films. Faran was also seen recently at the Tribeca Film Festival, where he attended Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Song of Lahore premiere.
