The film, which has won many accolades including the Women in Film-NETFLIX Award and premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, was also awarded the audience award for Best Feature at the International de Films de Femmes – an annual film event which serves as a major worldwide showcase for women filmmakers.
The story of a mother’s struggle to save her daughter from child marriage, Dukhtar had a lukewarm response at the local box office but won the hearts of many with its brilliant cinematography and heart-warming storyline. The film is expected to release in the US some time in fall, this year.

If seeing a young lad taking a selfie from the top of the Empire State building wasn’t enough, then here is actor Ranveer Singh, who posted a selfie and tweeted live from the operation theatre. Like us, you’re allowed to wonder why the kind doctors allowed him to take a phone in!
According to Bollywood Hungama, the actor was injured falling off a horse while shooting for period drama Bajirao Mastani and underwent a surgery early Saturday morning in Mumbai. But the surgery became more of a reality medical show when Ranveer posted his picture from the OT while wired to all the monitors. He stayed smiling and began live tweeting his procedure: “About to get knocked out! He injected my neck! Whoa!” he tweeted.
So that’s how addictive social media can get and even co-actress Sonakshi Sinha found that to be bordering on insane. “RanveerOfficial omg! Baba you just reached a whole new level of crazy! Get well super duper soon,” she wrote on Twitter. Let’s hope Ranveer has a speedy recovery – as fast as a 4G download!

Vidya Balan rumoured to fill the role
Don’t mistake this for an ordinary ‘inspired’ adaptation. Reports say that Vidya will get support from Hollywood for this show and it would be broadcast on a television network in the US. A source shed light on this matter: “It’s a show unlike any on Indian television. It will be backed by a Hollywood studio and will air on a US television network. It demands six months of consecutive filming dates, which is why she doesn’t want to sign any new films.”
Vidya Balan had previously said that she would take interest in a television show only if it was top-notch. “When the writing gets to a level of Mad Men or Six Feet Under, then I will be more than happy to do TV shows,” she said, “I don’t want to be part of just another reality or fiction show that does not interest me.” The actress recently declined to be a part of the next season of Nach Baliye.
Vidya also recently completed the filming of Mohit Suri film Hamari Adhuri Kahaani. It was previously rumoured that she is involved in a biopic on Benazir Bhutto but she has denied this. It might be the case that Vidya is instead gearing up for the talk show.
