Danish Ali’s World Cup song parody is more realistic than funny

Leave it to stand-up comedian Danish Ali to unabashedly mock the realities of everyday life in Pakistan, leaving you in fits of laughter. He once again puts his satirical skills to use and brings us a mirror view of our sad dismissal from the ICC Cricket World Cup by jeering at Coke Studio’s latest cricket anthem ‘Game Utha Dein’ – which failed to get the audience’s approval despite having Strings, Atif Aslam, Asrar and Jimmy Khan on the vocals.

In his true signature animated style, Danish sits behind a piano and takes us through a journey of the blunders that our cricketers made during this World Cup. For example, at one instance, the comedian sings, “The ball is coming down, our hopes are up. Who’s going to drop this catch, Misbah is going to kill Rahat after the match,” reminding us of that unfortunate moment when Rahat Ali dropped Shane Watson’s crucial catch at the Pakistan vs Australia Quarter Finals match. From ICC’s unfair bans on Pakistani players to Ahmed Shahzad’s love affair with selfies, Danish picks on the various flaws within our national team as well as the deliberate intentions of ICC to keep the team from building on its strengths thus resonating every cricket critic’s inner voice.

It’s not the best of parodies and the satire does sound stale at times but then that’s probably because it’s so close to reality. We think that the team, that returned recently, should definitely tune in and hear what Danish Ali has to say because it’s an echo of how everyone feels.

Mulder and Scully to reopen the X-files

When Mulder and Scully bid us farewell with the famous tagline “the truth is out there” back in 2002, they put an end to an entire era – the era defined by thrilling sci-fi mysteries, indelible characters like the Smoking Man and the dedicated cult of men and women who would leave everything that they are doing on Friday night 9pm to sit in front of their TV screens and watch the duo unravel hidden secrets of the universe. If you were part of that massive cult, then it’s time to celebrate for Mulder and Scully are coming back after 13 long years.

According to Mirror UK, Fox channel announced Tuesday that it will be resurrecting the iconic supernatural thriller for six episodes. The original series creator Chris Carter will helm the miniseries and David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles as the dynamic duo that chases the paranormal.

“The X-Fileswas not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture—yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. We’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for,” announced Fox executives. While there is no release date scheduled so far, shooting for the mini series is expected to begin in June.
