This refers to the news report, ‘Balochistan powers on big mines projects cut’ (November 10). I have also read reports of massive loans and funds coming from China for the CPEC and other big projects. Both the Chinese and Pakistani militaries will provide security to these projects. As a result of these projects, however, Balochistan and the rest of the country will be under the economic presence of the Chinese for years to come.
My fear is that the mines in Reko Diq ,worth over $500 billion, may ultimately be given to the Chinese at a very low price because of their dominance in the country. Thus, after investing $50 billion, they will get a reward of $500 billion in gold and copper mines. In Saindak, there was a similar situation where the Chinese were able to benefit economically at the expense of local resources. The authorities should look into this matter before it is too late.
