- Parents divorced when he was nine years old.
- Has four siblings: two sisters and two brothers.
- Made guest appearances in several television series before gaining prominence for portraying Cyclops in the X-Men film series (2000 – 2014).
- Has since appeared in several movies including Hairspray (2007), Enchanted (2007), 27 Dresses (2007), The Box (2009), Straw Dogs (2011), Hop (2011), The Best of Me (2014), and Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), as well as television series like Westworld (2016–2018) and Dead to Me (2019 - present).
