Muhammad Afzal Khan, lovingly called Lala, was famous for opposing militants in the Swat Valley. He was born in 1926 in Bara Drushkhela village of Swat. He was a prominent Pakhtun nationalist and affiliated with the ANP.
Lala was awarded the highest civilian award of the country – the Hilal-e-Shujaat – in 2009 for his bravery. The great Pakhtun nationalist passed away on November 1 in Rawalpindi. His death is a great loss, particularly for the Pakhtun community. We will never forget his contribution and role in strengthening democracy in the country.
