This refers to the article, ‘Martyrdom and command’ (September 28) by Syed Talat Hussain. The writer has rightly pointed out the wrongs of glorifying martyrdom and the place of those who laid down their lives as a result of terrorist attacks in the media.
All of us who are living a life of flesh and blood are indebted to our martyrs. But to eulogise martyrdom in a way that may make young men love death for nothing is really wrong. There should be a check on the way tributes are paid to the valour and bravery of a martyr. To romanticise the sacred cause in a way that may mislead immature minds is dangerous.
