This refers to the letter, ‘Pensioners’ woes’ (October 14) by Col (r) Riaz Jafri. The Senate’s unanimous resolution in favour of superannuated public servants adds to the prestige of the Upper House of parliament which is normally considered a house of cards.
The writer has the unique distinction of contributing his talent and experience to whatever we are today. His emphasis on the ‘One grade-One Pension formula merits immediate attention. It is highly recommended that the Senate should follow up on its resolution to prove that it means business when it comes to forgotten business of public welfare. The Senate has lately become active in pursuit of national objectives, reviving hopes of parliamentary supremacy which has so far remained a pipe dream. Pensioners will look forward to the day when Senate judgements/resolutions are given the credence they rightfully deserve. More power to a reactivated Senate that has started growing despite hindrances placed by the status quo on its march towards becoming the nation’s best Upper House.
