The Meteorological Department has predicted another cycle of heatwave in the lower parts of Sindh, including the provincial metropolis Karachi. With the city witnessing water shortages, power outages, etc, Karachiites are in for greater misery. As the wounds of the deadly heatwave in the month of Ramazan are still fresh in our memories, there is a need for the government to take precautionary measures to handle any emergency. Moreover, it should mobilise people through the media to take preventive measures to avoid heatstroke.
This long summer spell is a reminder of the effects of climate change. The need for planting, and above all protecting, trees is more than ever. In addition, while constructing buildings it should be ensured that there are proper ventilation and breeze channels.
