This refers to the letters, ‘Shocking competence’ (September 14) by Farid Nawaz and ‘Honesty as news’(September 22) by Zaheer Ahmed. Honesty in our society is a relative term for adulation. It is only the character of a person that determines his or her personality, integrity and straight forwardness.
To quote Thomas Carlyle: “For work is the grand cure for all the maladies and miseries that ever beset mankind – honest work, which you intend getting done.” This makes a perfect human being – man in search of his ideal of perfection. This is what a civil servant, a politician, a soldier and civil society should strive to achieve. The honesty title will automatically bestow upon them.
