LAHORE: THE Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday suspended three-year imprisonment of a convict involved in a power theft case.

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh passed the orders while hearing an appeal filed by Muhammad Yunas against the sentence awarded to him by a trial court. The appellant counsel argued before the court that the trial court had awarded three-year jail to the convict besides imposing Rs 50000 fine in a power theft case.

He submitted that the convict had been behind bars since February 2020.

He contended that the trial court awarded the sentence without appreciating case facts. The court after hearing the arguments suspended the sentence and ordered the release of the appellant on bail. Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) granted bail to an accused involved in Rs 3.7 million bogus cheque case.

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh heard the post-arrest bail petition filed by accused, Muhammad Abbas. His counsel argued that Factory Area police had registered a bogus cheque case against the accused on the complaint of Muhammad Hafeez.

He denied the allegations levelled in the case, saying that it was a business issue between them.
