The state run TV fee is collected by charging it to consumers' electricity bills each month. This means that citizens have to pay the amount whether they watch the channel or not, reported Geo News on Saturday.

The increased fee means that an estimated Rs21 billion will be collected from consumers annually. This will be significantly more than the previous collections, which amounted to Rs7.5 billion per year.

Separately, the government earns revenue from private advertisements run on PTV. It is pertinent to mention here that the government has not yet paid Rs6bn due to media houses for advertisements.
