25 marriage guests booked for attacking police

OKARA: Police on Monday booked 25 people on the charge of manhandling policemen when they raided to arrest the accused involved in aerial firing during a wedding function at Lakhu Malkana village.

Reportedly, the marriage ceremony of Saeed Khan was going on when his friends and relatives started firing in the air. When the Mandi Ahmadabad police received information, SHO Muhammad Ijaz rushed to the spot. On seeing the police, the accused persons allegedly attacked the police party and tore off the uniform of a constable besides allegedly manhandling the policemen.

‘YOUTH MUST BE PREPARED TO MEET REGIONAL CHALLENGES’: University of Okara Vice Chancellor Dr Zakir has said that varsities should prepare youth to meet regional challenges.

He said this while talking to the students of the Department of Political Science and Department of International Relations here on Monday.

The VC said that regional politics would create a vacuum of power for Pakistan in the years to come and the Pakistani youth must be prepared to fill that vacuum. This instability syndrome may create various challenges and opportunities for Pakistan, he added.

CASH, VALUABLES LOOTED: Three dacoity incidents were reported here on Monday.

Lady Health Visitor Parveen Akhtar along with her minor son was on her way when two dacoits snatched cash and other valuables from her at Amir Colony. Imtiaz Hussain was sitting in his PCO at Benazir Avenue when two unknown armed men entered and took away Rs 110,000 from him. Dacoits entered the house of Muhammad Zafar at Basirpur and decamped with valuables.

16 TEAMS FORMED TO CONTROL LOCUSTS ATTACK: Deputy Commissioner Usman Ali has established 16 teams for surveillance and control of locusts attack in the district. The district administration and the Agriculture Department have prepared a plan in this regard and the Agriculture Department staff would remain alert against the attack of locusts in the district. An awareness campaign would also launch against locusts in the district.

WATER FILTRATION PLANT: The Municipal Corporation chief officer on Monday laid down inaugural foundation stone of a water filtration plant which will facilitate the residents of Bajwa Colony, Chamra Mandi, Sirdi Mohallah and Garden Town.

SIX GAMBLERS HELD: Shahbore police on Monday arrested six gamblers for betting on cock fighting.

They are Shoaib, Rashid, Shafqat, Zahid Imran, Shabbir and Khizar Hayat.
