Senior journalist Khalique Zuberi passes away

ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist and Assistant Editor of The News, Rawalpindi Khalique Zuberi passed away on Monday after a brief ailment. He was 80.

His Namaz-e-Janaza was offered at the National Press Club, which was attended by colleagues, relatives and a large number of journalists. He was buried at the H-11 graveyard.

Khalique Zuberi, a name associated with economic and financial reporting, gave a new dimension to economic reporting in the country and budget reporting.

He remained Editor of Pakistan and Gulf Economist for a decade. He started his career from the news agency PPI in mid-60 as economic reporter and then moved to the Pakistan and Gulf Economic in 70s where he worked as economy writer under the editorship of Ibnul Hassan and then he was elevated to post of editor in Pakistan and Gulf Economist in mid-80s till the decade of 90s.

He also hosted and took part in economic discussions on the national TV in 80s and 90s.

Khalique Zuberi in 1994 moved to Islamabad from Karachi and took charge of daily The Financial Post and then joined The News in 1997 and remained associated with the paper till death. He was a humble person with great literary taste. The News staff pays homage to Khalique Zuberi.
