Buzdar out?

January 21, 2020

This letter refers to the article ‘Change in Punjab may come about next week’ (Jan 19, 2020). Although quite belated, the move is welcome. One fails to understand why, despite the availability of a competent and experienced person like Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Imran Khan chose to recruit an amateur for the position of chief minister of Punjab, which houses more than half of the Pakistani population, and normally plays the role of king-maker in Pakistani politics.

Imran Khan went for Usman Buzdar, perhaps hoping that with on-the-job training, the gentleman would work wonders. However, despite the full backing of PM Imran Khan, CM Usman Buzdar has been unable to deliver. Buzdar remains a novice, still learning the ropes of the trade, and not learning them fast enough. The planned change, will allow the PTI government to save-face, while not adversely affecting their government at the federal level. I hope the plan succeeds.
