Sindh govt formally requests federal govt to change IGP

KARACHI: The Sindh government has formally requested the Establishment Division, Government of Pakistan, for the posting of Inspector General of Police Sindh while appointing a BPS 21 officer to officiate the office of the IG Sindh. The Sindh government sent a letter to the Establishment Division, Islamabad, on Thursday night with the subject “Posting of Inspector General of Police, Sindh” by Secretary Services, citing Section 12(2) of the Sindh (Repeal of the Police Act 1961 and Revival of Police Order 2002 (Amendment) Act, 2019 expressing the intention to repatriate the IG Sindh, Kaleem Imam.

It cited the decision taken by the cabinet on Jan 15 and listing different crime incidents to firm up its stance that the crime situation in the province in general and Karachi, in particular, has deteriorated during the last one year which the IG failed to control. Furthermore, the IG violated rules to engage with foreign missions without permission. According to the letter, he was insubordinate and tried to willfully embarrass the government.

Meanwhile, till the time a new IGP is posted, the government of Sindh has assigned Addl IG CTD, BPS 21, Dr Kamran Fazal, to look after the charge till the time that a new officer is posted to Sindh.
