Decision to make Club Road one-way was made to manage the traffic during rush hours, says the official
Karachi’s Club Road that joins the Metropole hotel and the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) House will be a one-way thoroughfare from January 18, Saturday, onwards, according to a notification issued by the Commissioner Office.
After it will be one-way, vehicles will only be allowed to move from Metropole to PIDC on the road, and the traffic coming from PIDC will have to use an alternative route to reach Metropole.
“The violation of one way on the road shall be punishable under the existing traffic laws,” the notification reads. A meeting in this regard was held at the Commissioner Office in July in which it was also decided that the radius of the Fawara Chowk roundabout would be reduced.
Karachi Development Authority Traffic Engineering Bureau Senior Director Naveed Izhar told The News that the decision to make Club Road one-way was made to manage the traffic during rush hours.
Regarding the cost of turning the road one-way, he said it was very minimal. The cat-eyes and lane marks for the two way traffic, he said, would be removed before January 18. “Direction boards will also be installed on Club Road for the commuters.”
