This refers to the news report, ‘Is SC supreme or parliament, asks Fawad Chaudhry’ (December 17). Fawad Chaudhry said the Supreme Court was the supreme institution but its decision pertaining to the extension in the tenure of the army chief had raised several questions.
I believe that parliament comprises elected representatives of the people, tasked by them to run the government while the Supreme Court role is limited to cautioning the government and making it rectify any glaring illegality or violation of any constitutional provision. I believe that since the chief works at the pleasure of the prime minister and the system has worked satisfactorily all along, there need not have been any intervention in the matter.
