He said, “In the last five years we have seen the numbers of scholars quadruple from Pakistan with more young leaders and professionals having the opportunity to study and experience life in the UK, sharing the best of what our two countries can offer.”

The designated high commissioner has welcomed back Chevening scholars 2018/19. Dr Christian Turner hosted a reception at his Diplomatic Enclave residence to welcome back and congratulate Chevening scholars on completing their programme of studies. Scholars were presented certificates at the reception on the completion of their fully-funded one-year masters’ degree.

In the 2018/19 cohort, 63 scholars from across Pakistan, went to study in the top universities in the UK. The high commissioner said that he has been delighted to see more female scholars going for the Chevening scholarship from just 6% in 2013 to 39% in 2018.

Our ambition is to have a diverse range of Chevening scholars from Pakistan in 2020 with an equal split between male and female scholars, he said. “I look forward to seeing our returning scholars excel in their careers, make a positive contribution to Pakistan and further strengthen the bonds between our two countries,” High Commissioner (Designate) Dr Christian Turner added.
