Stakeholders unite against piracy

LAHORE: Terming piracy a heinous crime against copyright, book publishers, authors, and senior management of Intellectual Property Organization (IPO-Pakistan) have vowed to join hands to overcome this issue in an effective manner, a statement said on Monday.

The handout said, a decision to this effect was taken during a meeting held in connection with the Copyright Outreach Program organised by IPO-Pakistan.

Addressing the moot, Mujeeb Ahmed Khan, chairman IPO-Pakistan, said,” Copyright has been a neglected area for the last 70 years but now focus will be given to protect the rights of publishers, writers, authors, and booksellers.

“IPO-Pakistan, along with its stakeholders should make piracy of copyright a moral issue and for this purpose awareness is needed at all levels.” Khan also informed the participants that amendments were being made in copyright laws to make it more effective.
