Fighting financial crime main agenda: PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan has reiterated that fighting organised crime, including corruption, cybercrime, financial crime, immigration and money laundering crimes.

ISLAMABAD:He observed this during a meeting with the newly-appointed DG Federal Investigation Agency Dr Wajid Zia, who called on Prime Minister Imran Khan here.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar was also present. Dr Wajid Zia assured the prime minister that he would do his best to serve the country with commitment. In a related development, Director General FIA Bashir Memon quit his post in protest on Monday, terming his removal from the office victimisation.

Memon quit the office 15 days before his retirement and forwarded his resignation to the Establishment Division. He was due to retire on December 17.

Talking to The News, Memon said he had stepped down in protest against his sacking from the post a few days before his retirement. “I am considering my removal from the position of DG-Ship of FIA as victimisation that’s why I resigned in protest,” he said.

Replying to a question, Memon said he was removed without any reason in a disgraceful and insulting manner. He said according to the practice, no officer close to retirement was replaced from his position but in his case all the traditions were violated.
