ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Thursday elected Rana Tanveer Hussain as its new chairman with consensus in place of Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif, whose resignation as PAC chairman was accepted by Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaisar last week.
The PAC member from PTI Sardar Nasarullah Dareshak proposed the name of Rana Tanveer Hussain for the PAC chairman and was seconded by former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed.
After the election of PAC chairman, newly-elected Chairman Rana Tanveer Hussain thanked the participants for believing in him and said that reforms are required in the PAC to improve its performance.
He said sub-committees of PAC didn’t work as per expectations as these committees did not finalise their reports for the last many years. He also vowed to make the PAC a viable forum, saying that working schedule would be formulated for the PAC with consultation of the members of the committee.
The post of the PAC chairman was vacant after the resignation of Shahbaz Sharif last week. The PAC was non-functional as Shahbaz Sharif did not preside over its meeting for the last nine months, but meetings of the sub-committees were held regularly.
