Saqib Malik’s cinematic directorial debut, Baaji, which marked Meera Jee’s return to the big screen, rolled out on June 28, 2019.
The film generated huge figures at the box office – becoming the 6th highest grossing film of 2019. And since its release, Baaji has made it to the DC South Asian Film Festival in the United States and the Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival in Canada, where it won the Grand Jury Prize as well as received an honour for Best Supporting Actor. Apart from this, earlier this month the film was also screened at the Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival (VISAFF) 2019 along with Kamal Khan’s cinematic debut Laal Kabootar.
Baaji – with a soundtrack by Jamal Rahman – is one of those rare films produced in Pakistan to earn both critical and commercial acclaim post its release.
So, it is not entirely surprising that Baaji is coming back to local cinemas next month. The news was announced on the film’s official Instagram handle. “Get ready again for some thrills! Drama! Action! Baaji will soon be making a comeback to a theater near you!” read the post.
Moreover, Amna Ilyas, who essays the character of Neha in the movie, took to Instagram to share the news. “News alert!! Baaji is coming back to cinemas very soon, stay tuned,” she wrote.
According to Entertainment Pakistan, due to public demand, the film is set to hit Pakistani cinemas once again on December 6, 2019.
Produced and directed by Saqib Malik, aside from Meera Jee, the film stars Ali Kazmi, Amna Ilyas, Osman Khalid Butt, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Nayyar Ejaz and Nisho Begum.
