KARACHI: Airlift, a ride-sharing start-up that recently raised $12 million Series A financing led by First Round, has unveiled a plan to add electric vehicles to its fleet.

Airlift has signed a memorandum of understanding with the federal government, for which it thanked Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudry in a statement. “We are excited to put forth our plan of adding electric vehicles in our fleet, and we are also extremely grateful for the support that we have received from all relevant government bodies,” the statement said.

Airlift has a vision to build a decentralised mass transit system that enables the use of higher capacity vehicles, as opposed to single-car ownership and usage. The start-up believes in making urban commute more efficient, while reducing traffic volume and carbon emissions in South Asia.
