Matti kay Gharonde: Sada-e-Nau Festival

With the aim of providing a platform for young theatre enthusiasts to present innovative ideas and new expressions in the performing arts, Sada-e-Nau: Young Directors Festival 2019 is scheduled to commence on November 16 and will continue till December 1, 2019. The festival will feature five new plays starting with a theatre production titled Matti kay Gharonde, which will take place on November 16 and 17 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA), Karachi.

Directed by Malik Farhan Aziz, who has a diploma from NAPA and a bachelor’s degree in Media Sciences (Film & TV) from Iqra University, Matti kay Gharonde is an adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ classic play, The Glass Menagerie. “Matti kay Gharonde is a play about family, love and the haunting power of memory,” reads the post on NAPA’s official Facebook handle. “It takes place in Bukhari family’s apartment in 1970s Karachi. Alina Buhkari lives with her aimless son, Salman and her shy, crippled daughter, Fatima, all three frustrated by their limited lives... The family pins their hope for the future on a potential suitor for Fatima, only to have their illusions shattered.”

The tickets are available at Agha’s Supermarket and bookitnow.pk

Hayee Mohabbat

If you are up for some comedy, there is another play that is taking place this weekend at the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi. The play titled Hayee Mohabbat, which is presented by Abdul Hai Foundation, premiered in Karachi last week and promises to tickle your funny bones. According to the play’s Facebook page, Hayee Mohabbat is the “most hilarious comedy theatre play with a moral of honour and dignity.” The best part about this play is that all funds generated by this play will be used to build an orphanage.
