Mahira Khan, who has been garnering rave reviews for her performance in Superstar alongside Bilal Ashraf, was recently in London where she joined writer and poet Fatima Bhutto onstage at the National Theatre. The Humsafar actress read from Fatima’s third novel, titled The Runaways, making Mahira Khan the first Pakistani actor to have performed at the National Theatre.

The writer, who has best-selling debut novel The Shadow of the Crescent Moon to her credit, was invited for an evening of conversation and debate by Gary Younge, editor-at-large at The Guardian who is also the author of Another Day in the Death of America.

At the event, they talked about radicalization, extremism along with discussing Turkish television and how Bollywood is obsessed with fair skin tone among other things.

Coming back to Fatima’s latest work of fiction, The Runaways, it has many layers and is about radicalization including factors that can lead young people to pick up weapons against their own people and the rest of the world.
