Pakistani-American actor Iqbal Theba, who escalated to global prominence with Ryan Murphy’s Fox series Glee as Principal Figgins, attended the premiere of the upcoming film, Superstar, earlier this week.

Back to Karachi from Los Angeles, he spoke to Instep on the sidelines of the event and said that he visits Pakistan every year and came to the premiere with friends.

“I visit Pakistan once a year,” he said, before admitting with great humility that people recognize him, sometimes.

After struggling as an actor for years, Iqbal Theba went on to star in Glee and the NBC hit, Community.

Talking to Instep, he noted that he has an upcoming Netflix series in the pipeline. “There’s a Netflix series called Messiah that’s coming out in 2020 and there’s a movie coming out called The Illegal, hopefully by the end of this year.” As for releases, his upcoming film is scheduled to hit India and the USA simultaneously. “I don’t know about the Pakistan release; I only know about the India release,” he said.

The film, he told Instep, is directed by Danish Renzu. “He is a Kashmiri Muslim. He directed the film and let me see, Suraj Sharma is in it as well as Suraj Sharma, Shweta Tripathi and Adil Hussain. It’s a good cast.”
