ZURICH: FIFA on Monday ordered Yemen to forfeit their World Cup qualifying match against North Korea 3-0 for fielding a banned player in the game.
North Korea won the June 11 game 1-0 anyway.
But FIFA said it increased the score in North Korea’s favour because Mudir Al Radaei lined up in the Yemen defence when he should have been serving a one match ban after getting two yellow cards in previous matches.
“The match is declared to be forfeited and awarded 0-3 in favour of DPR Korea, with the Yemen Football Association also receiving a fine of 6,000 Swiss francs ($6,350/5,750 euros)” said a FIFA statement. Yemen have since lost another Group H qualifying game 2-0 to the Philippines.
