The tragic deaths of over 1,200 people in Karachi due to the recent heatwave have shocked everyone. However, it is strange that the federal and provincial governments are involved in a neverending blame game. Instead, they should focus on avoiding a similar situation in the future.
Non-availability of drinking water along roadsides, disappearance of tree shades, a non-functional Rescue 1122 service, power breakdowns and similar other issues aggravated the situation. So, why does the federal government not forget the idea of gifting a metro-bus service to Karachi for now and divert funds earmarked for the project to finding a solution to more pressing issues. It is time our rulers sat together and pooled resources for finding solutions to Karachi’s problems.
